10,000-Yen Bill with a Portrait of Prince Shotoku

Prince Shotoku is one of the most important icons of Buddhism in Japan. Sculptures, paintings, and drawings of his likeness can be found all over the country. From the late 1950s to 1986, his portrait appeared on the 100-, 1,000-, 5,000-, and 10,000-yen bills.
