Introduction

The Asian Art Museum is one of just a few museums in North America dedicated entirely to Asia’s arts. Our gallery spaces are organized by theme rather than a more traditional narrative by geography or chronology. You’ll find a presentation that truly embraces the region’s complexity. What you won’t find here are collection exhibitions focused on China, Japan, India or Iran. Instead, you’ll discover groupings that tell stories about some of the ways that Asia’s many regions and periods are interconnected, and how they are also quite distinct in regions and periods.
