Notice carved granite benches in the shapes of eyes. I wonder about all the things these eyes have seen. Just like me. We’re going to take a moment to reflect on how we observe the world around us.
Find a comfortable place to sit or settle, near the eye benches. Let’s take 3 deep breaths to begin - go ahead and keep your eyes open.
When you are ready, take a nice deep breath in, and breath it out slow... breath in in in, and let it breath out... last deep breath in even slower... hold.. let something go breath it out... keep breathing slowly like this and you hear the sound of my voice.
When I first sat down at these eye benches, I got lost amongst the people and sounds around me.
I wonder, what do you notice? Look for one person, an animal, or even an object to focus your attention on. Now go ahead and create a story about them. Where did they come from? What have they gone through? Where are they going? What are they thinking? Have fun with it! Let your imagination expand the story. I'm going to give you a little bit of time to create a story.
That was fun - now I have an interesting question - does this story reflect anything about you?
Can you find yourself in this story you created about someone or something else?
Continue to ponder on this idea for as long as you like - these benches remind me that the stories we create about those around us can be a mirror back into ourselves
