Verbal Description Transcript:

This is a built-in wall case displaying 4 small standing mobiles, side by side. Included are Untitled, made in 1952; Black, White, Yellow and Brass on Red, from 1959; Untitled from 1947; and Two White Dots, from 1973. The sculptures are made of sheet metal, wire and paint; 2 of the 4 also include elements of brass. They range in size from about 4 inches to 10 inches in height, and from about 5 to 10 inches wide. The 4 sculptures are all abstract in form. Each one stands on an irregularly shaped base or support – in three of the sculptures, this base is a rich brick red color; the other has a black base. Each base supports delicate arrangements of metal bars and wires that extend upwards and outwards. Some are straight, some curving. A couple curl around at the ends. Attached to the wires are flat metal elements. Most of these are circular discs of varying sizes, painted in shades of red and white. One sculpture – Black, White, Yellow and Brass on Red – includes a yellow element, oval in shape but coming to a sharp tip at one end. The arrangement of bars, wires and metal pieces are linked together by wire rings.
