This is an elder's game, not a young people's game. Young people learn it but are not allowed to play in an open environment.
Elders play this game on a daily basis... to challenge one another. The person who plays the best tends to be a very wise person that thinks quickly, can see things quickly. Young men are not allowed to play this game with elders, because it's just not respectful.
These sticks serve as goats when playing the game. At the end of the game, they count the sticks and the person who has the most is the winner. These are known as goats when you're playing the game, you will not say sticks but you'll say goats. This is one of the things we can bring back home for our elders. We bring small pieces sticks and he really appreciates them a lot.
This game was contributed by Ole Naoyoyi, which is one of the elders in our
community. We wanted to give him something back. And he say that ...oh, he
just want about three goats. So we bought him three goats and he gave us this
game. So that is how this game came to the museum.
