Interstellar, oil on panel, 30 x 45 in.
My continued goal is depicting moments of awareness within specific places. This awareness happens when something seen causes time to pause; perhaps a row of headlights on a damp morning, trees reflected on the side of a car, or the pattern of diminishing power-lines. All of my paintings begin as if I was painting outside – loose and gestural. In this way the composition naturally finds its footing on the panel and the final painting is significantly removed from the referenced image. It is my hope that the viewer feels a moment of presence and beauty and perhaps sees mundane and common streets in a new light.
