Convergence, oil on canvas, 24 by 24 in.

Junko Yamamoto

The circular forms that reappear and disappear in all of the pieces signal consciousness and interconnectedness. My creations show my indebtedness to the forms of Japanese popular culture; particularly comic books. Dialogue bubbles invoke communication and the ways pop cultural imagery help to shape and structure our consciousness, even though they exist as an escape from "real life." The perpetual openness of talk-bubbles and thought-clouds invites play, a precarious sense of possibility, as changeable and ephemeral as the clouds in a spring sky.
